Morocco positions itself as UIC vice-presidency

The Morocco was elected this Thursday as vice-president of the International Union of Railways (UIC), while chairing the International Railway Union (UIC) Africa Region.

Rabie Khlei, Director General of the National Roads Office fer, has just been elected, this July 08, 2021, vice-president of the International Federation of Railways for a term of two years, during the 98 th session of the General Assembly of the International Railway Union.

Out of 200 members of the organization, more than half, that is to say 180 senior officials of railway networks around the world, were present at this assembly which saw the election of Morocco unanimously.

In addition, this election reflects the efforts made by the Kingdom, which has been ensuring for 20 10 the presidency of the Africa region of this body, by taking strong actions that have led to the federating of African networks around a common project, supported by structuring and innovative actions.

These efforts made it possible to gain in terms of notoriety, recognition, involvement in major regional and continental projects, as well as a privileged position with the governmental and regional institutions concerned (African Union, NEPAD, regional economic communities, donors

This assembly, it must be emphasized, is the first of its kind at the Arab and African level, and reflects Morocco’s leadership in this sector, as evidenced by its sustained commitment and intensive in the service of sustainable mobility, in accordance with the vision and forward-looking orientations of His Majesty King Mohammed VI in this area.
