Something strange is happening on Voyager 1

Today, Voyager 1 cruises some 23.3 billion kilometers from Earth. outside our solar system. And from interstellar space, the probe continues to collect and return scientific data, to receive and execute commands. In short, it works quite normally. Well, almost… Because the NASA engineers who are still working on the mission noticed something strange. The system they call attitude control — the one that controls the orientation of the craft — AACS for the experts, started sending back “invalid” telemetry data. “Data that may appear to be randomly generated or may not reflect any possible state the AACS might be in.” As if our behavior was completely normal, but our electroencephalogram showed abnormalities. We're investigating a mystery with @NASAVoyager 1. While the 45-year-old spacecraft continues to return science data and otherwise operate as normal, some system readouts aren't reflecting exactly what's happening onboard. https://t.co/yTFQ4SsOCb — NASA JPL (@NASAJPL) May 19, 2022Voyager 1 did not place itself in “safe world”. His signal did not weaken either. Engineers must therefore determine if the problem comes directly from the AACS. Or perhaps one of the systems involved in producing and sending telemetry data. Once the source of the problem has been identified, a solution must be found. Or a way to adapt to it. Until then, it is difficult to estimate the impact it could have on the continuation of the Voyager mission. Which has already gone well beyond what NASA experts had imagined. 45 years after its launch, the Voyager 1 probe, shown here as a model, continues its journey through interstellar space. © Nasa The Futura briefs: a short format to inform you as soon as the Editorial Board has the information.
