This year’s edition will be open to two new categories, under 16 and women. From February 18 to 26, the best surfers on the planet will put on a great show on the world-class waves from Anchor Point to Taghazout. The Rip Curl Pro Search Taghazout Bay is making a comeback in the Souss-Massa region. After a successful first edition in 2020, the competition will be held this year from February 18 to 26 in Taghazout Bay. For the organizers, the dates of the event are ideal from a weather point of view for Taghazout, since the long winter swells and offshore winds regularly provide epic conditions at Pointe des Ancres. A mythical site known worldwide which shelters the most famous of the waves of the Kingdom. This is where this event will take place, considered as a stage of the 2022-2023 Qualifying Series of the World Surf League. On the novelty side, we note the opening of a category for under 16s, as well as a female category. This competition could encourage Moroccan surfers to rub shoulders with the world elite. They are still today too few to participate in national and international events. For now, the young surfer from Casablanca, Lilias Tebbai, spearhead of the Moroccan new wave on the European tour, will set the example. World-class spots and champions Note that the second edition of the Rip Curl Pro Search Taghazout Bay is made possible thanks to the support of Rip Curl, Taghazout Bay, the Souss-Massa Region and CIH Bank in particular. For the Agadir region, this is an opportunity to shine on an international scale and to strengthen its position as a surfing destination renowned for its world-class spots. Agadir and its beaches are indeed today at the top of the busiest surfing destinations. The local international champions, such as Ramzi Boukhiam, Brahim Iddouch, Othmane Choufani reinforce this notoriety today. Othmane Choufani was also recently in Hawaii where he participated in the traditional Hawaiian competition “Backdoor Shootout”, alongside the world’s great surfing. Evolving in the category of extreme surfing (XXL-Bigwave), he has just surfed, almost two weeks ago, the biggest wave in Hawaii, the famous Jaws (25m). For his part, Ramzi Boukhiam created the feat recently by qualifying for the elite of world surfing. Ten years after his debut in the Qualifying Series, in January he joined the Top 32 on the legendary Pipeline wave in Hawaii for his first season at the highest level. These champions are all standard bearers for the destination and the Rip Curl Pro Search Taghazout Bay is undeniably a great promotion for the seaside resort and its entire periphery with significant repercussions on the occupancy rates of hotels in the locality. Today, to maintain this momentum and strengthen it, it is however important to act at several levels. Surfing being above all a lifestyle, it would be appropriate to multiply the accommodation products adapted to surfers. Tourism professionals are also calling for the strengthening of air transport and the opening up of this part of the coast. It’s now or never to ride the wave…
